Yesterday, medium sized pies were on sale at Pick’n Save for only $2.99. I couldn’t resist picking up a raspberry one.
This was the start of a rather bad decision.
As you can see, I am quite upset about it.
Mmm…. pie for breakfast.

I went to a local salon for a hair conditioning treatment known as a Brazilian Blowout a little over a month ago.
For those of you that might be interested in it, here’s an update.
I’m still using the hair masque that they provided about twice a week. My hair feels awesome after I use it.
I have no regrets about the procedure at all! (Except for the fact that once I get back to WA, I might not be able to get it done again because I’m sure it’s much more expensive than here in Sheboygan.)
Here’s what it looks like today:
Yay for hair that is much easier to maintain!
I went wogging this morning along Lake Michigan. For those of you that don’t know, “wogging” is a term that my friend Cassie and I came up with to refer to exercise where you walk and then jog and then walk and then jog. We didn’t feel comfortable calling ourselves ‘runners,’ but ‘woggers’ seems much less intimidating.
So, today I headed out, half asleep and forgot to bring a hair tie. Jogging with my hair down drives me a little crazy.
I decided to try a creative way of dealing with it. I tied it in knots. Eventually, the knots fell out, but they held for a short period of time.
When I get back home to WA, I’m sure going to miss wogging along Lake Michigan. Gorgeous view, gorgeous breeze, lots of things to look at.
Plus, they have exercise stations all along the trail. Today I did that one where you swing your legs. I tried sending an email with my phone while I was on it and just about konked my head on the bar.
Nice, Jenna. Nice.
Okay, so mainly just beets. :) (Jayne: You do realize that most of these Office quotes are for your benefit, right?)
I bought these small beets at the Sheboygan Farmer’s Market last Saturday.
It took about 30 mins of boiling for them to become tender. But, I love them! They are so much better than the canned ones that I am used to. I’ll definitely be cooking beets more often when I get back home.
Ice dark mocha and cherry turnover from Johnston’s Bakery off Superior.
Side note: the little cookies were for sharing with coworkers… not just for me. :) In fact, I didn’t even try one! But, they looked cute.
I should make a mental note to only go to Johnston’s on Tuesdays – that’s their double punch card day. After one more purchase, I get something free! (Those cards are such a sneaky way of making you buy more.)
I went on a long (about 3.5 mile) relaxing walk on Sunday evening. I wandered downtown, walked along the lakeshore and then headed back home.
The homes and buildings in this area have a lot of character. Even though the neighborhood is rather old, many of them have more charm than the buildings back in my neighborhood (in WA). I love the little details – the gingerbread, oddly shaped windows, bright doors.
I suddenly have an urge to do real-estate photography! :)
This afternoon, I went to the Sheboygan Public Market and wandered around downtown.
I love public markets, and had fun picking out a dill plant, spicy beef sticks, sugar snap peas and beets. I also ate some awesome popcorn.
Then, I went to the beach and sat on a bench and people-watched.
Friday evening, my friend Kim and I (she’s the one who I often go walking with, along with her mom) headed for Milwaukee, which is usually about an hour drive, to attend Summerfest, which is apparently the biggest musical event in the U.S.
My company gave me 2 awesome VIP tickets, which gave us a pass for some wonderful food, free drink tickets and a backstage seating area, sponsored by M&I.
We made it to downtown Milwaukee just fine, but then our directions became a little unclear and we didn’t see any signs for Summerfest. (If it’s such a big deal, why aren’t there signs pointing the way, I say!)
Above: Me, lost.
Above: Driving over the bridge.
After quite a bit of time (and driving 4 times over a fairly large bridge) lost downtown, we finally figured out where we needed to be, found a parking garage and walked toward the venue.
We walked and walked and walked…took advantage of the VIP tickets… and walked and walked and walked.
Above: Notice the beer pocket in the sweatshirts.
We wasted time trying on cowboy hats and browsing the craft market until 10pm, which is when the only act that we really wanted to see was playing – Dierks Bentley. By the time we made it near the stage (or as near as we could be), the crowd was buzzing with anticipation. People were pressing in all around us. Kim and I tried working our way through the crowd and got a bit closer to the stage, but there was barely any room to turn around and we couldn’t even see the stage. So, we weaved through the crowd in the other direction to see if we could get a glimpse of Dierks. But the crowd was still too packed, so we decided to head home.
By the end of the night, I’d had beer spilled on my feet a few times by people in the crowd, had two tipsy guys tell me they loved me when I gave them directions and was wearing a new summery dress. We drove home, listening to music and enjoying the air conditioning.
After wandering around town, I took a nice long nap and then woke up and realized: “Holy crud. My apartment is disgustingly hot and muggy.”
So, I decided to drive around and see where I would end up (hopefully somewhere with air conditioning).
I hadn’t yet tried what they call ‘custard’ here. So, I stopped by Randall’s and picked up a cone with the flavor of the day: Dreamsicle.
It was pretty wonderful. I don’t know if ‘custard’ is the best word to describe this (at least from a Pacific Northwestern perspective). It was much more like very smooth ice cream.

And now, a quote for my friends:
Jim: Dwight, I’m sorry, because I have always been your biggest flan.
Ryan: You, ah, you should have put him in custardy.
This sweet thing was on my bathroom door at about 9:30pm last night.
And I know it’s rather odd that I freak out about other bugs, but like ladybugs. They just look so cute.
This guy was playing his guitar (although I couldn’t hear him) along the lakeshore last night when I went for a walk.
What an awesome location. I think I should bring the ukulele down here. She’d probably really enjoy it. :)
I just realized that I had a voicemail from a few days ago that had gone unnoticed.
It is 3 minutes long and made me teary-eyed.
The reason? It’s a normal day-to-day conversation (including high pitched laughter and screams, be warned) between a few of my favorite people who didn’t realize the phone was recording.
I’m saving it.
I walked down a different street last night, toward the lakeshore. There were so many charming houses that I just fell in love with (although I didn’t take pictures of post of them). I’d like to wander with my real camera sometime and take photos of the houses.
While jogging along the lakeshore, I sucked two bugs up my nose and one into my mouth (and promptly spit it out). Whether I breathe through my nose or mouth, there’s no safe method. When it’s dark, you can’t see the clouds of gnats until you are running through them and they are flying into your face. Gross.
